The steam train museum at Castle Hedingham will be transformed into that of a small country station during wartime. Help recreate the atmosphere with your Austins and period clothes too. Steam train rides and free entry for exhibitors. Open to the public from 10.30a.m. but we can arrive from 9.00a.m. onwards. There will be a remembrance service at 3p.m. attended by the Royal British Legion and the deputy Lord Lieutenant of Essex. The last train ride will be at 3.30pm so members are asked if they can try not to leave before the train gets back (about 4pm). Free teas and coffees for members from the staff room. Wattisham will be hosting another Families Day on Thursday 22nd August 2019 to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the start of WW2 (plus the distinction of being the base from which aircraft conducted the first raid on Germany on 3rd September 1939). The ‘general’ theme will be WW2 but displays will cover the entire period including Cold War, with static displays from our museums Phantom, Lightning and Hunter Jets. There will clearly be guest appearances/displays from the Apache, Chinook, The Blades, RAF Falcons, Blenheim, Mustang and AAC Historic Flight! There will also be a Glenn Miller-style Swing Band and 40’s Singers plus Victory Tea Dance, so shapes up to be a very good ‘do’.
